The first podcast was definitely an experience. Although it was fun to shoot, it was very time consuming to complete. For a simple three minute video it took over 2 hours to record the footage, and who knows how long to edit the thing. During the editing process I did realize a couple of things I need to do for the next podcast. First, it is a good idea to stop the camera in between takes rather than leaving it running. I had a number of long clips I had to go through on imovie. It is also a good idea to rehearse or at least have a script created of what I want to say. I am not a very good speaker on camera, so it took a lot of takes. Lastly I realized that it is hard to speak with a fake beard; don't think I will be dressing up for any future podcasts. Now that the first one is out of the way I am hoping that the next three will not take me as long to produce.

Brandon did a good job in producing this podcast. He has a naturally soft spoken voice which was pleasant to hear. The opening slide could have been a bit different, perhaps built up the main presentation a bit instead of directly focusing on him. The transitions were very smooth. I like that, wish I had managed the same with mine. The slide on the goals was just right, leaving me with enough time to read everything. He also did a good job in covering all the key points. I liked the inclusion of the props,so more props to you,Brandon, pun unintended. You pulled off the 'undershirt wearing warlock' look well.I found the choice of background colors a bit mundane. A bit more color would have been a nice touch. At times I felt you were getting lost in the brown. Also, at places the shadow from his cap was on his eyes. Sound was clear and lighting was good. Though in the end, the sound suddenly went down and I had to turn up the volume to hear it at the same level as the beginning and middle parts. The editing flowed and wasn't choppy. The end part was the only part where I feel he sounded a bit rushed in his delivery. Aside from that minor observation, I think he did a commendable job in handling the first podcast. Looking forward to seeing what the next ones will be like!
The video was very clear. There were not any distracting noises or images in the background. I could hear you clearly, but at some points, it appeared like the video and audio were not synched. The difference was subtle, but it is something you might look into.
I liked the way you got dressed up at the end of the podcast. This certainly added some interest and was definitely attention grabbing.
You included all of the necessary information and it was easy to determine which topic you were discussing because you included title screens for each section. That made the podcast information very organized. You also provided your goals for the class on a screen. This helped with comprehension and made your goals clear. You might also try to put your goals on the screen while you’re talking instead of flashing a new screen in between shots of you talking. I think this would help this section to feel smoother. In addition, you’d be able to leave the goals on the screen longer. I know this is easier said than done. So if you figure out an easy way to do this, please let me know. It’s something I need to learn.
My final suggestion would be to try shooting some video of you talking from a different angle or different locations. This might add some interest to your podcast. I noticed you liked Arijit’s use of multiple angles. I am also going to try to do this for my next podcast.
Brandon,
Good observation on leaving the camera running. Think about shooting for editing, that is, if you have the project planned out in advance, you can pre-plan where you will need to change camera positions, etc. and minimize how much tape you need to use. You might want to use a still without your mouth being open. Is the wall brown behind you or is it white. If it is white, you need to color balance the camera before you shoot it (you should be doing this anyway). The narration came across well. I liked your use of title slides. They came across well, though you cut your voice off a bit at the end of some of the section. Your voice also drops a bit at one point. The clip on mic worked well. You might run the wire inside your shirt to keep it from being in the camera quite so much. It looks like in much of the video you tried to keep it out of frame. You came very close to doing so, but not quite. It is a good technique though. Overall, the video came out nicely. You did need a bit of b-roll in it though.
Brandon-
Your podcast was produced very well. The audio was clear and the entire podcast flowed well. I liked the transition slides; they were up for just the right amount of time. I also liked your introduction/title still. I thought it was simple and funny. You did a good job of including all of the material and it didn’t sound like you were just memorized it and repeated it. I especially liked the costume, hilarious I might add. It was a nice change in direction and kept my attention. I have some suggestions for your next podcast. I would change the scenery up a little bit and not just stay in one location. I would also think about filming in a location with a little more color. I would also try to do a few voiceovers here and there to make it more interesting. Overall, I think you did an excellent job editing and filming this podcast. Everything was clear and precise. The only thing lacking was "a little spice."
I'm a big fan of your first podcast, Brandon. I think you did an excellent job. I know you said that you weren't as comfortable being on-camera but I think you did a great job. Arijit was right that your voice is pleasant and with an even, clear tempo. You were definitely easy to understand. Also, I really enjoyed the slides you used; they made your podcast extremely easy to follow. Finally, I loved the costuming and I'm a little disappointed that we won't be getting more of the same. I understand though; I could never have pulled it off.
You definitely added interest with your costume, maybe changing location would do the same for your next podcast.
Again, I thought you did a really good job! I'm sure the next one will be even better!
