This podcast is an introduction to the theory uses and gratifications. This theory will work as the theoretical framework for my research proposal. My goal for this podcast was to provide a little background information on the theory I will be using for my final project in a not-so-boring way. Although I did not go too in-depth in defining uses and gratifications, I do feel I provided the information necessary to at least understand the theory.
I feel a lot better after the completion of this podcast than I did after my introduction cast. I was much more comfortable in front of the camera, and the editing went a lot faster. I was really happy with the way this one turned out. We got a little creative with some of the shots and changed locations often; something I did not do with my first podcast. I also used some b-roll, also something that was not included in the first podcast.
It was especially fun to shoot the "Cloverfield" scene with us running up the stairs. I think you can sense that I am out of breathe for that next scene. I hope you guys enjoy the little video, thanks for watching.

Brandon—
You started your podcast off well with the music. I also thought the Cloverfield scene was fun. I am glad you reviewed the material you covered during the Cloverfield scene because some may have been distracted by the moving around. I also liked the way you were able to include voice overs for your B-roll. It’s also impressive that you were able to sync up the audio and video after inserting your B-roll. I know this is a bit complicated. You seemed to know your information because you used a conversational tone and you did not use a lot of uhs or ums.
I do have a couple suggestions. First, you might consider bringing in extra lights when the room is dark or when there are no windows to let in the natural light. For example, the scene of the of the gentleman playing the video games was a little dark. You might also consider putting some of the information on a text screen if there are lists or long definitions. This might help some viewers get everything you are saying.
I really liked your podcast. You were able to provide scholarly information in an easy-to-understand format and you included pertinent B-roll. I can tell you are more comfortable with using the video equipment and editing software. Good job.
I found this podcast to be interesting and fun. You obviously had a blast shooting it and it was evident in the suppressed smiles! The concept of the video was good; I liked how you made it interactive for the viewer by using the "Cloverfield" sequence. The camera stayed focused on your face during the running sequence while staying true to the shaky hand-held style of the movie. Good job! I liked the opening and closing of the video too.
In the shots of the gamer where you spoke about escapism, the lighting was a bit dark. In some shots, it was hard to concentrate on what you were saying because the action was so much and was vying for attention with your words. Also, the music from the title slide spilled over into when you delivered your monologue. In the running shot, the fire alarm was loud enough to drown out some of the words you said about U&G theory.
Aside from these points, I liked the ease of delivery, the concept and the creative opening and closing shots. I can feel you have become quite comfortable in front of the camera and it is starting to show. I enjoyed listening to Uses and Gratifications Theory, with a twist! Very good job. I look forward to watching your next video.
I like the way you started your podcast off with music. The "hi mom" was a nice touch as well. This podcast was definitely entertaining. It kept my attention with the constant change in location. As Liz and Arijit said, I enjoyed "Cloverfield" scene. It must not have been easy to film that and you did it very well. Your voice overs fit the b-roll well and the audio and video matched when you came back.
The few suggestions I have are petty and will be easy to change in your next podcast. Some extra lighting in the shot of the guy playing video games would have helped...but I know how it is shooting at night. And I guess if I had to think of another suggestion, the audio when the fire alarm first went off was a bit loud (honestly made me jump) BUT I think it was just because it was a surprise, and I do NOT think it was too loud while you were running and talking to the camera and it was realistic.
I also thought the scene where you were talking about the third part of U&G-personal identity and you slowly came into the shot with the campus picture behind you was hilarious. Overall, I think you did a very good job with the podcast and kept my attention. I look forward to watching your next one!
Ok, so I'm a big fan of yours now, Brandon. None of these podcasts have been difficult to watch, but yours are especially entertaining. I think you do an excellent job on-camera; you seem very informed and still conversational. I also think you do a good job of presenting information that is not that interesting in a fun way.
I would have to agree with previous posts that some of the lighting was a little bit of an issue. Other than that, I say excellent job, keep up the good work and I'm looking forward to the next one!
Nicely done. You've gotten some good feedback from your peers about lighting. A couple of thoughts. In the opening shot, I’d suggest stopping your zoom just above the waist or zooming out further. Typically you want to have your cut off point at natural bending point/joint of the body. I like the shot of you at the desk—nicely framed. In the next scene you have some issues with audio background. The running shots are great. The transition between the scene of you walking and the first shot of the guy playing games is a bit jarring. The switch around 3:45 or so (to you closing shot) ends up being very close to a jump cut because, while you pull away a bit, you keep the same framing. Some ways around this would have been switching your camera angle or cutting to a title slide/b-roll.
Overall, the piece worked very well. Very creative, nice discussion of content. As you work on your paper, you may want to make sure the version of uses and gratification you are using. There are a couple of different versions (slight variations). Nice job. I look forward to the next one!
